Brooks Koepka, the only LIV golfer out of 24, is playing this week in the Ryder Cup in Rome, Italy. The five-time major champion won the 2023 PGA Championship and his third Wanamaker Trophy to essentially secure his place in the field.
Koepka never minces words. When asked if LIV golfers had been snubbed during the selection process of the biennial United States-Europe competition, he said: “No.”
“Play better,” said he. “That is always the solution.”
Bryson deChambeau has repeatedly said that he feels snubbed and ignored by U.S. Captain Zach Johnson. He even claims he did not receive a phone call during the weeks before the captain made his selections. Even after he shot an impressive 58 in August to win the LIV Golf Greenbrier tournament.
DeChambeau stated, “It would have been nice if Zach had at least called me.” Zach could have called many people here. We didn’t.
“I get it. I understand. But we are no different.” We’re still competing. “We’re still trying to be the best that we can.”
Dustin Johnson, in addition to DeChambeau who represented the Americans on Whistlingstraits in 2021 said recently that he would have made the team if he played on the PGA Tour.
Koepka said that the Ryder Cup became more important after the week in Augusta. When he moved up to LIV in the summer of 2016, he admitted that the Ryder Cup was not on his mind.
A T-2 finish and win at the first two majors this year boosted him to the top of the list, earning him one of six captains’ picks for Rome. Koepka, however, doesn’t believe anyone was overlooked.
Koepka stated, “I do not make decisions.” It doesn’t – everyone had the opportunity to reach there. “I had the same chance as everyone else, and I am here.”
Koepka is playing in his fourth Ryder Cup. He has a record of 6-5-1 and a 2-0-1 singles.
