Bryce DeChambeau slams the OWGR, while Phil Mickelson and other LIV golf players suggest alternative ideas for major qualifiers

Apr, 2023

Talor Gooch has won the LIV Golf Adelaide in Australia last week. His Official World Golf Ranking fell two places from No. From No. 57 to no. 59.

The upstart circuit, led by Greg Norman, and financially backed Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, applied for OWGR point in July, but has yet to receive a response. This is not surprising, as the process could take , or even longer than, a whole year. Players are frustrated by the lack of OWGR at LIV events . This can hurt their chances of qualifying for major championships.

Bryson deChambeau said, “You should understand that the OWGR (Ordinary World Golf Ranking) is not accurate,” ahead of LIV Golf in Singapore at Sentosa Golf Club this week. “Two,” I said, “I think they should come up with a solution or else it will be obsolete. As of now, it’s almost obsolete. “But again, if majors and all continue to use that ranking system as their ranking, they are biting quite heavily.”

LIV Golf will use the OWGR to determine the participants for its 72-hole promotional event.

“I think we just have to focus on our tours, our league and the top players. If that means 60-75 guys from the PGA Tour are in every major then great.” Bubba Watson said that if it means that ten to fifteen of our players, who have the most points at the end the year will be in the majors. “Forget World Ranking Points, just see who the best players are in your league and on your tour. Then go from there. This is how it’s done. “It’s just simple math.”

Phil Mickelson agreed with Watson, and believes that the majors are going to step up. Mickelson is one of the three LIV players who will finish in the top six for the 2023 Masters, after finishing T-2 alongside Brooke Koepka.

Lefty said, “It will all work out, because if it’s one of the big events, or if it’s the Masters, then you don’t think about whether we should keep them out.” You’re thinking, “We want the best field and the best players. These guys contributed a lot this year to the Masters.” How can we include them? ‘”

He continued: “We need to create a qualification mechanism that is inclusive. If the World Golf Ranking doesn’t want to be inclusive then they will have to find an alternative.” “Maybe the top five or top ten or the winners of the LIV will be used, but they have to find another way to include the best LIV golfers in their field to achieve the goal of a major championship.

The only LIV players in the top 50 are Thomas Pieters, Brooke Koepka (39), Abraham Ancer (37), Cameron Smith (8), Joaquin Niemann (26) Joaquin Niemann (26) Joaquin Niemann (26) Joaquin Niemann (26) Joaquin Nieman (26), Patrick Reed (46), and Brooke Koepka (49) Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson are Nos. Nos. 73 and 74 are Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson.
