This week, our own PGA Tour photographer spotted a new putter in Byeong Hun An’s bag. An’s new flatstick is a Scotty Cameron Circle T 009M with a custom longneck welded on. Scotty’s Tour Only 009 putter heads are some of the most collectible and beloved in the world of putters.
The 009M, or Masterful, head is slightly different with a thicker flange and taller bumpers for little more of a thicker look. These Masterful heads are still more rounded like a Newport but with even softer corners and edges. The 009M heads also feature a rocker sole and are milled to more exact tolerances that require much less hand polishing to get them finished.
A longneck, or taller plumbers neck, on a putter is usually implemented to reduce the toe hang and make the putter closer to face balanced. This face-balanced weighting typically is used by players with less arc in their putting stroke — or a straight-back, straight-through player.
Milled from solid SSS, Surgical Stainless Steel, with a slightly shallower milling on the face. A single site line is milled into the topline of the putter while the flange stays blank for a clean and simple look. The cavity features Scotty’s Jester Skull, Circle T, Scotty Dog, and Hot Head Harry stamps to go along with the 009M and SSS stamps on the bumpers.
An’s 009M has a steel shaft installed and a blacked-out Scotty Cameron Pistolini grip to finish off the putter. The Pistolini was first introduced in 2012 and has less taper and fewer angles compared to its Pistolero sibling.
