The drama on the 18th Green on Saturday night , involving Rory McIlroy’s caddie Joe LaCava and Patrick Cantlay’s caddie Joe LaCava was one of the most talked about stories from the 2023 Ryder Cup.
After the incident, McIlroy was restrained in the parking lot of Marco Simone Golf and Country Club by Shane Lowry. American caddie Jim “Bones Mackay” approached to explain what had happened.
Golf Channel reported before Scottie Scheffler’s and Jon Rahm’s Sunday singles match began that McIlroy had made amends with LaCava after their dust-up at the 18th hole. Steve Sands reported that LaCava texted McIlroy camp during the ride home after the match, saying “I love all of you and respect you.”

McIlroy’s team also expressed the same sentiment, leading LaCava to request a face-toface meeting with McIlroy in the morning of Sunday. Sands said that the brief meeting took place, and that “everything has been diffused.”
