Phil Mickelson had “a week” at the last event of the LIV Golf Series.

The three-time Masters champion engaged in a heated exchange of words with Brooks Koepka (captain of the Smash GC) just before the final team event started at LIV Miami.

The captains were asked to choose their opponent. Before Koepka could respond, Mickelson suggested that they play again at the 2021 PGA Championship. This was the event Mickelson won as the oldest major winner.

The 32-year old, who was himself a winner of four majors, suggested,

He commented to his opponent, “That’s beautiful green shirt.” “Does your green jacket come with you?”

A few days later, he didn’t have the same answers when Mickelson’s team of 2022 Open Champions, the Hy Flyers, defeated Cam Smith’s team, the Hy Flyers. He did so with a seven-foot last hole birdie.

Despite watching Punch GC progress, the former world number 2 accused his opponent of a little bit of gamesmanship.

“We both hit the ball well. “I probably didn’t putt as many as I would like, but I was still able to finish the job on the last hole,” the Australian star said.

He said, “Yeah it was a great match.” “I think Phil may have had some gamesmanship in here a bit. Today, he seemed to take forever. It was quite painful to think that we were only three or four holes behind. It was, however, a good experience.


Two days later both Koepka and Smith’s “Smash” and Smith’s “Punch” made it to the final four. They were competing against Louis Oosthuizen’s Stingers and the Aces, which includes captain Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed and Talor Gooch.
