As father, so son
Cameron Kuchar (15-year-old Matt Kuchar) is now one step closer to playing in the U.S. Open 2023 at Los Angeles Country Club. He shot a 3-under-par 69 on Monday at Wellington National Golf Club, in Wellington, Florida, to advance out of the U.S. Open qualifier.
Next up is a 36 hole qualifier on June 5. If he advances, he will be in the field for the U.S. Open. Matt missed the tournament for the first year since 2007.
Matt is also yet to qualify and is ranked 47 in the Official World Golf Ranking. The Official World Golf Ranking has him at 47. If he stays in the top 60 until either May 22 or June 5, he will be eligible to play. He would then have to qualify through one of the final 10 qualifiers.
Matt, a recruit from the Class of 2026, has teamed with Cameron in three PNC Championships. Cameron finished second in local qualification with a bogey at his final hole. He was one shot behind the medalist Jordan Gumberg.
The final three places at Wellington’s qualifier were won by Austin Durand (third), Scott Turner (second) and Ryan Davis (third).
