Carrie Forsyth, the UCLA women’s head golf coach for 24 years, is retiring.

Longtime Bruins leader Announced Monday that she will retire at the end of this season. Forsyth is taking on a newly created role as the special assistant of The Alice and Nahum Lainer Familie Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond.

Forsyth stated in a press release that he was “blessed” to have called UCLA his home for the past 29 years. It has been an honor to fulfill my dream of being the head golf coach at my alma matter and continue the legacy of the golf program in this world-class university for over two decades. I had the privilege of coaching some of the most dedicated and amazing student-athletes I’ve ever met. I will cherish our journey forever. I would like to thank my dear friend and associate head coach Alicia Um Holmes, for her attention and care towards our team. I can’t express my gratitude enough to the UCLA athletic department and administrators for their support over the years. “I am excited to continue shaping the bright future of UCLA.”

Forsyth had a stellar career at UCLA. Forsyth’s career at UCLA was stellar. It included two NCAA championships, nine NCAA Regional titles and 74 victories in tournaments. Eight times, the Bruins placed in the top three of the NCAA Championships. And 17 of her golfers finished amongst top 10 at nationals. Forsyth is the only active coach to have won five Pac-12 Championships, which ranks second in Pac-12 history.

Forsyth produced two ANNIKA Award recipients, given annually to the top female Division I collegiate player, Alison Lee 2014 and Bronte Law 2016, as well as two PING WGCA Players of the Year in Law (2016) and LiliaVu (2018).

Vu won the Chevron Championship at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands (Texas) on Sunday. Forsyth has now had three golfers win majors.

Under Forsyth, 14 UCLA golfers won 27 WGCA First-Team All-American Awards. Emma Spitz, a UCLA golfer, became the fourth person in program history who was named to the first-team three times during a career.

Forsyth joined the UCLA women’s team in 1990 as a freshmen. She competed at the Pac-10 and NCAA Championships, before receiving a scholarship in her sophomore year. In 1994, she graduated with honors with a psychology degree from UCLA. Forsyth, who was named Big Sky Conference Coach 1998-1999 in 1998-99 before taking on the UCLA position, had been the head coach of CSUN between 1996 and 1999.
