Golf fans following the development of Tiger Woods’ son Charlie Woods may have wondered where and if he would play high school golf.

Benjamin School in Palm Beach Gardens was the lucky recipient and has already reaped the benefits of his talent.

The Buccaneer Boys Golf Team is on their way to a fourth state title with the 14-year old freshman prodigy after winning the West Coast High School Tournament hosted by the South Florida PGA Junior Tour on Saturday afternoon.

Charlie won the individual championship at Cypress Woods Golf and Country Club, Naples.

Aidan Miller and Tyler Bruneau, both seniors, tied for second place. Luke Wise was fourth. Travis Robertson, a Benjamin senior, also shot two over and withdrew.

Charlie’s performance is his second consecutive low-round since the weekend before at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship Last Chance Florida Regional. The tournament was held at the Mission Inn Resort, Howey-in-the-Hills. Benjamin will be heading to the high school championship tournament in the fall.

Charlie, who had Tiger caddying for him and finished with scores of 71 (and 66 in the second round), tied his career high by scoring nine birdies in the second round. Charlie then won the regional qualifier for the 14-15 year old boys to qualify to the National Championship in Coushatta in Louisiana.

The tournament, which begins on November 4, will end on November 6, the day before the Florida High School Athletic Association Golf state championships begin. Teams and individual champions will be determined on Nov. 15,

Charlie gave only positive feedback on the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort in an interview conducted last Sunday. He had reduced his tournament scorecard from 68 to 68 by two strokes.

Woods said to tournament host Ryan Burr, “This course is perfect for me.”

In November, Charlie may not be able to bring dad along for his first attempt at a state championship. The Buccaneers can be confident, however, with a veteran “rookie” on the team.
