Chevron Championship is NBC’s top-rated sports program this week

Apr, 2023

According to figures released early this week, the Chevron Championship moved from California to Texas. While the move was not popular among LPGA players it was a success for the television audience.

The average viewership for the final round coverage of The Club at Carlton Woods, The Woodlands, on all platforms including NBC Sports and the NBC Sports App, Peacock is 941,000, a significant increase from the average viewership of 349,000 when the event was broadcasted by Golf Channel last season.

The heat was really on when the champion Lilia Vu went into a playoff with Angel Yin, and a peak audience of 1,54 million viewers (or a 1.0 score) between 7:15-7:30 p.m. ET. Yin fell into the water when the two players played 18 in the playoff again, and Vu made a birdie-putting to win her first major championship.

The numbers of the tournament were clearly aided because the schedule was moved away from the Augusta National Women’s Amateur to a better time slot against the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic.
