Chubb Classic Announces More Commitments with Steve Stricker and Ernie Els on Board

Jan, 2023

Steve Stricker joins the field at this year’s Chubb Classic. It will be played February 17-19 at Tiburon’s Black Course in Naples FL.

Stricker, a former Naples resident and 2021 Chubb Champion, won the season-opening PGA Tour Champions event at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship in Hawaii. Stricker won four Champions tournaments despite a illness that forced him to miss the first part of the season. He also had the chance to defend his Chubb title.

Ernie Els and Jim Furyk, major champions, will be joining Stricker for the latest wave in early commitments.

Els is a 2010 World Golf Hall of Fame Inductee. He has 74 professional wins, including four major championships. Els made his Champions Tour debut in 2020. He has two senior wins. He was tied for 10th at the 2022 Chubb Classic.

Furyk has 29 professional wins, including the 2003 U.S. Open as well as the 2021 U.S. Senior Open. Lehman is a former World No. 1 and a 12-time Champions winner. Lehman is the #1 ranked player and was the only player to receive player of the Year honors on the PGA Tour as well as the Champions Tour.

Bernhard Langer, the current champion, and the trio will all be competing in the 54-hole championship to win a piece of the $1.8million purse. The Golf Channel will broadcast all three rounds live.

The 36-year-old Chubb Classic, now in its 36th anniversary, is the longest-running Champions Tour event within the same area. It began in Southwest Florida in 1988 at The Club Pelican Bay. Since 2021, the tournament has been hosted by Tiburon.

The Chubb Classic is still open for general admission. SERVPRO will provide free admission to all military personnel (including police, fire, and EMS) and their spouses. A paid adult must accompany children under 18 to gain free admission to the tournament.

A portion of ticket sales will go to Southwest Florida charities. Since 1988, the Chubb Classic has supported over 39 charities in the region.
