Justin Leonard and Notah Beay III are the latest golfers to join this year’s field for the Chubb Classic. It will be held February 17-19 at Tiburon Golf Club’s Black Course, Naples, Florida.
Begay III, the 1997 Open Champion and Leonard will make their Chubb Classic debuts. Each golfer has reached 50 in the last year. They plan to compete on a full Champions Tour schedule in the 2023 season.
They will be joined by Steven Alker, 2022 Charles Schwab Cup Winner, and Rocco Mediate (longtime Naples resident and multiple PGA Tour winners).
Alker won four times in the Champions Tour 2022, including the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. He also took home the Arnold Palmer Award, which is for the season-long title, and the Byron Nelson Award, for the lowest scoring average for the 2022 season. Mediate has won 13 professional wins, including four Champions Tour victories.
Bernhard Langer, the current champion of the Chubb Classic, will also be part of the 78-player field, competing for a piece in the $1.8million purse. Prior commitments include Steve Stricker (2021 Chubb Champion), Retief Goosen, Sandy Lyle (Hall-of-Famers), and Jim Fuyrk (major champion). All three rounds will air live on Golf Channel.
The 36th anniversary of the Chubb Classic Champions Tour event is now. It was established in Southwest Florida in 1988 at The Club Pelican Bay. Since 2021, the tournament has been hosted by Tiburon.
The Chubb Classic is still open for general admission. Limited hospitality tickets and limited general admission are available. SERVPRO will provide free admission to all military personnel (including police, fire and EMS) and their spouses. A paid adult must accompany children under 18 to gain free admission to the tournament.
A portion of ticket sales will go to Southwest Florida charities. Since 1988, the Chubb Classic has supported over 39 charities in the region.
