Block explained that he didn’t even look at Rosey for the first 3 holes. “I’m a huge fan of Rosey, and have watched him for my entire life. I knew that it might be a bit intimidating. I looked down and at his shoes for the first two holes. I got off to a good start, then continued from there,” Block stated after his round.

Block has only made 13 birdies, while Rose’s 14 are the most. He is doing things a club professional, who earns his living by attending to his members and rarely has the time to practice or play golf, should not be doing. Block was ahead. Block was ahead of world No. Block still has a shot at becoming the first PGA Club Pro to finish among the top 10 players in the PGA Championship.

Block, a 10 time Southern California PGA player of the year, said, “I can compete with these guys. “I can compete with them. I can hang. “I can shoot a 3-or 4-under on Sunday.”

When asked how he could stay grounded after becoming an overnight sensation in golf, he replied, “Have You Met My Wife?” She’ll keep you grounded more than anyone else. She is an Argentinian/Italian fireball who will tell you everything you don’t need to know, but she will keep you grounded like no one else. I’m pretty good at it. Midwest roots, a combination of St. Louis and Iowa. I’m sure my parents wouldn’t let me venture outside of my comfort zone.

“I’m having fun.” The people are so nice and everyone is cool. “We go to dinner. Everyone is awesome. The fans have been incredible, you guys have all been great. I’m having a great time.”

Block is charismatic. It’s not easy to remain grounded, and it’s another thing to accept the media attention he’s received and do ‘walk and talk’ interviews with people like CBS’s Jim Nantz and ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt. When asked how he managed to handle it all so well, Block replied, “It is built-in club professionalism.” You have to deal with 600 personalities, correct? You have a lawyer who tells you how to grow the grass, and an accountant who says that your burger isn’t cooked properly. You’ve got it, and you can deal with everyone.

“That comes naturally to me.” I don’t need to do it. I’m just being — like I said, I’m just being myself. This is my main goal. In the early days of my career, when I did the first 100 interviews in my life, not with you but with much smaller interviewers, I used to get a lot from her because I would say, “Yes, yes”, “mm-hmm”, and so on. This is what I can hear with many of the men here, when I watch them do this. It’s like, dude…I became more natural. “My wife told me that I should do it, and she was right.”

Block also shared some profound thoughts that go beyond golf. He is a modern philosopher and Ferris Bueller with spikes.

He said, “I have learned to enjoy every moment. I’ve learned to relax, enjoy, and take it all in because life is short.” “Before long, you will be 60 and retired. Look back on the videos and remember the best time of your life. This is likely to be my best week ever. I will sit as long as possible with my family and friends at the house that we rented to watch the videos and check out all my new Instagram followers. It’s crazy, it’s awesome.”

There’s one more Block Party day to go.
