KAPALUA (Hawaii) – Collin Morikawa’s dark eyes light up at the mention that he is going to play golf in Hawaii.
His grandparents were born on Front Street, Maui. They also owned a restaurant once upon a time.
Morikawa stated, “Everytime we walk past, my dad… I know he just kinda goes back to being an kid.” It was obvious that he wished it was still there. It was my wish that it was still there.
Morikawa would also love to win a PGA Tour event at the Aloha State, his first victory since 2021 British Open. Morikawa is off to a great start. He followed up 64 with a 7-under-66 bogey-free round on Friday to move to 16-under 130, and take a two stroke lead into the weekend.
Morikawa would be more happy if he could do it in front of his family and friends.
“We had around 15 people yesterday. He said that he believes they will continue to add people throughout the week. “But it’s important to me that I stay focused and do the job.
Morikawa was hot on another picture-postcard day. He made four birdies in the first five holes. Despite failing to birdie the Nos. 2 and 5 par 5, Morikawa shot 66. 9, and 18. He’s the only player on the 38-man field who has not made a bogey through 36 holes.
Morikawa is enjoying an extraordinary week on the greens after he joined Stephen Sweeney as a putting coach. He is ranked first in Strokes Gained: Plating (+3.623).
“Before it was just rolling the dice, guessing. It’s now that I know a little more, and I can predict if I hit bad shots or good shots.
These are just four additional things you should know about the second round of Sentry Tournament of Champions.
