Again, CBS’ segment on the mic during its third round broadcast was spectacular. It was Collin Morikawa at the Genesis Invitational’s 10th hole.
Although the par-4 is one of the most beautiful holes on the course, it will punish those who make poor shots. Morikawa explained how the hole is risk-reward and why it can be so difficult for top players around the world.
After putting his tee shot towards the front of green, Morikawa stated that “I don’t think people know how much slope it is.” “There is so much bank to the right. There is so much bank pushing away at the front edge that all our balls end up on either the back or side of the green.
Morikawa’s insights were very useful to the fans who watched, explaining the lines from the tee and joked about Justin Thomas being the only one who lies up on the hole.
He decided to hit a bump and run with his 5-wood. Then Morikawa moved to the side to comment on the shots of the group behind him into the green.

Morikawa’s birdie misses just right of the hole but he still made his par putt.
This week’s mic’d up segment is now in its fourth week. It was Max Homa from Torrey Pines. Keith Mitchell at Pebble Beach. Tom Kim wore one last week at TPC Scottsdale.
Next CBS broadcast will be at the Masters. We hope someone will take a microphone to Augusta National.
