Danielle Kang hasn’t even received her golf clubs after two days of practice at the Solheim Cup. Technically, she only has one golf club. Kang stores her putter in a separate rifle case to prevent it from getting bent.
The rest of her clubs never made it over to Spain. Ping assembled a set of clubs for Kang on Tuesday, so she could play Finca Corestin in the morning practice round. Titleist has shipped a second club set, which is scheduled to arrive Tuesday evening.
One silver lining: Competition doesn’t begin until Friday.
Kang gave a club design idea to Scotty Cameron, a renowned club designer. She then watched with excitement as her idea became a reality. Together, they created three different molds.
Kang said on Tuesday that he travels with his putter in a rifle-case because it is a different type of putter and we do not have a bending machine to bend it. It also bends quite a bit during travel. I travel with it separately as I do not have the resources to have my putter checked each week. And yes, clubs can get bent in the air and yes, it does matter.
“Thank goodness the putter did not get lost. It’s okay. The rest of the 13 will be here soon. It’s coming. We believe. Stacy (Lewis), she’s on it. “I mean, she is putting out the fires and I am pretty sure that I am the only one who is causing fires right now.”
Kang is ranked second in the world in terms of putts made per green. Cameron inscribed “DK Special’ on the bottom of this one-of a-kind piece.
