The Ryder Cup 2023 is now in the rearview, but the pain of losing this biennial event again on foreign soil is still lingering.
Who will be the U.S. Captain in 2025?
Davis Love III knows the answer to the question. He led the U.S. Ryder Cup team to wins in both 2012 and 2016.
Love told Furyk & Friends that he would call Tiger Woods to ask him. He spoke at Timuquana Country Club, in Jacksonville, Florida. “I would say that if Tiger wants to… obviously Tiger is into a lot right now but it’s his decision, I’d say. It’s not my place to put any pressure on him. “With some guys gone, he is the next logical option.”
Love, when asked about the plan to bring in new blood to fill the captain’s position, did not hesitate to say that it was time to move on.
“They should get rid of Davis Love, and possibly Fred Couples. They need to move on.” “I’m advocating for it,” said he, admitting that it would be hard to step aside and let others take the reins.
It’s very hard. “It’s incredibly hard.” He replied, “yeah you’re correct, probably time. Who do we think should we get, young boys?” The next year, [Steve] Stricker invited me back.
“You know, if you want me to continue helping, I will, but now I would be better at logistics, behind the scenes. Tiger has been a great help behind the scene. “Maybe that’s what I and he want to do is remain behind the scenes, and help Stewart Cink or the next guy.”
Love mentioned Webb Simpson as a future candidate for Ryder Cup Captain. Webb Simpson was an assistant captain of the winning team in 2022 Presidents Cup.
