Tabitha and Jim Furyk’s PGA Tour Champions event, which has raised almost $2.5 million for charity, has been voted by players as the best tournament on the circuit. They will be presented the Deane Beman award, which is presented each year by the Jacksonville Area Golf Association, and the Northern Chapter PGA.
The award will be presented to the Furyks, who are named after the former PGA Tour commissioner, and World Golf Hall of Fame member. It will be presented at the Northeast Florida Celebration of Golf Banquet, which takes place at Sawgrass Country Club on February 22, 2023. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the banquet has been canceled since January 2020.
Constellation Furyk & Friends is a tournament held at Timuquana Country Club. It is an offshoot from the Furyk & Friends charity event that was held at Sawgrass Country Club for 10 years.
Furyk is a 17 time PGA Tour winner. His highlights include the 2003 U.S. Open title, and the 2010 FedEx Cup champion. Furyk has won three PGA Tour Champions titles including the 2021 U.S. Senior Open. He has won the PGA Tour Payne Stewart Award in the past.
The Furyk Foundation has raised funds for charities like Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Blessings in a Backpack. The MaliVai Washington Foundation, St. Johns Riverkeeper. Habitat for Humanity, Hope for the Holidays, and The First Tee.
The Celebration of Golf banquet is a gathering of local golfers, volunteers, and members of golf organizations to honor and recognize those who have made a significant contribution to the game of golf. It is supported by the Jacksonville Women’s Golf Association (JAGA) and the Northern Chapter PGA.
Past winners of the Beman Award include Anne Nimnicht and Joe Louis Barrow Jr., John Hayt, and John Tucker.
The Celebration of Golf’s proceeds will go to the tax-exempt JAGA Charitable Trust. This trust awards scholarships each year to college-bound students who are affiliated with JAGA or its 40 member clubs.
The six previous Celebration of Golf banquets were fully booked and 325 people attended the last one at TPC Sawgrass. Individual tickets and tables will be available for purchase through JAGA’s BlueGolf platform at jaxareagolf.org. Prices for individual and table seats start at $125 each
