Ockie Strydom was keen to ensure a quick start to Saturday’s third round at Leopard Creek Country Golf Club, South Africa.
Before he started his round, he glanced at the Stimpmeter and knew instantly how it would end.
Strydom, a South African player who was ranked No.1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, said, “When I saw it, I thought it was 13” or something. 384 in the Official World Golf Ranking. “I had a downhill putt on the first to learn how it worked and ran it just four feet beyond. The greens are out there. You just have to make them and go with the pace.
Strydom did it — he was sparked by an eagle at the second hole and made the turn at 29 to shoot a 9-under 64, which pushed him to 15 under for tournament play and tied Scott Jamieson. Strydom tied the course record but it’s also the second 63 fired in 24 hours. Jamieson did the exact same on Saturday’s second round. The course is well-known for its breathtaking visuals and has been easy to navigate despite the fast conditions.

Dean Burmester is two shots behind at 13 under, while Branden Grace and Frittelli are part of a three-man team at 12 under.
