Varner was able to defeat four-time major winner Brooks Koepka easily in their singles match, and the loss could not be attributed solely to Varner. His teammates Turk Petit, Hudson Swafford and James Piot all lost their matches.

Varner called James Piot his young teammate after the defeat.

The 2021 U.S.A. champion was 22-years-old. The 22-year-old Amateur champion holds the Michigan State record of lowest scoring average. Varner said that Piot’s body language during the match caused injuries to his Niblicks GC teammates.

“I didn’t like the way Piot handled his situation. It doesn’t matter how much you lose, it is important to keep your head up and take it all on the chin. I was impressed by the way Turk and Hudson played. I went out to watch their last three holes, which was two or three holes. They played well. It’s as simple as that. It’s very simple .”

“I had a great experience with the guys. They are amazing. Yes, I would love to see Turk. I also want to see Piot grow. These are the two things I care most about. Hudson, Hudson could not care less. He has won two times on the PGA Tour. He is a great guy. He is a great golfer. Those young men don’t know what they are doing. It’s just .”

Varner was frustrated by having such a young, inexperienced team. However, he will be getting some reinforcements in 2023 when his friend Bubba Watson returns from injury.
