STERLING (Va.) – Former President Donald Trump praised LIV Golf as it hosts the event this weekend at the Trump National Golf Club – Washington, DC.
While playing in the pro-am on Thursday, Trump told reporters that LIV Golf has an “unlimited” amount of money and its future is “very promising.”
“I believe the (PGA Tour) made a big mistake by playing games. They love to play games and have unlimited funds. Trump added, “And it’s great publicity for Saudi Arabia.”
Trump also spoke highly of LIV Golf’s course, and wanted the tour to use it “because they are the best courses.”
“I believe I have the best course.” The best course in the tristate area. It is the best course. “It’s not a competition,” he said. “I believe it is one of the most beautiful properties in the entire world. The Potomac River is there. You have the Potomac River. Potomac River is not just any river. You can’t find another golf course on the Potomac. There’s no other course quite like this one.

Trump has been praising LIV Golf ever since it began last year. The former president urged golfers, before hosting an event at Trump National Golf Bedminster, New Jersey in July, to accept the guaranteed money that the tour offered, which was financed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. Trump said that the Saudi people have been “friends of mine for a very long time” during last year’s event.
LIV Golf is a sport that has been widely criticized. Some have claimed it’s being used to wash Saudi Arabia’s record on human rights. Saudi Arabia is accused of a wide range of human rights violations, including torture, political killings, forced disappearances, and inhumane treatment for prisoners. Saudi Arabia’s royal family, as well as the Saudi government, were accused of being involved in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. Khashoggi was a Saudi columnist and Washington Post journalist.
New York Times reported earlier this month that the U.S. Department of Justice had subpoenaed records from the Trump Organization regarding LIV Golf, and Trump’s connections to the tour.
Trump’s comments on his performance at the LIV Golf Pro-Am: “It is fine.” We’re having a good time. “We’re just having fun, I suppose.”
Trump also talked about Florida Governor. Ron DeSantis announced his 2024 presidential campaign on Wednesday. He is widely seen as Trump’s main opponent within the Republican Party. He called DeSantis “a very disloyal individual.”
“Look, just a few minutes ago in Iowa, there was a new poll. I am leading by 30, 40 points. This is not a problem for me. No, I don’t think so. He’s got no personality. Politics is very difficult if you lack personality. Trump said, “I have a wonderful character.”
Trump claimed to have played golf with DeSantis in the past, and that he thinks his game is better than DeSantis.
