The DraftKings Sportsbook is now ready to open at TPC Scottsdale, ten months after the groundbreaking.
Larry Fitzgerald, a former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver and avid golfer, will place the first ceremonial bet Thursday, October 19, at which time they will also hold a ceremony to cut a ribbon. The sportsbook will open to the public at 10 am on October 20.
PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan attended the groundbreaking in December last year. He admitted that there was a period when he could not have imagined a sportsbook being opened at one of the Tour venues, but he did admit that if he’d been able to imagine it, “this is the location I would’ve said.”
Now, it’s a real thing, the first-ever partnership between DraftKings, and the PGA Tour. The 13,000 square-foot venue is located about five irons away from TPC Scottsdale’s clubhouse. The WM Phoenix Open will be held in February next year, and the sea of fans who descend upon the event won’t find it difficult to locate.
The video walls will cover 3,400 square feet and feature 40 betting kiosks. The sports bar opens onto a patio that has cabanas, fire pits and a dining room.
Along with Fitzgerald, Ron Price, the COO of PGA Tour and Jennifer Aguiar are expected to attend. Mike Golic, a former ESPN personality, will host the event.
