Golf fans, have a great Monday morning. Viktor Hovland has just won the BMW Championship with an amazing final round.

1. Hovland wins BMW Championship with his brilliance

AP Report …” Viktor Hovland hit every shot exactly the way he liked on the back nine of Olympia Fields. Rory McIlroy kept Hovland’s card, and wrote “3” into every box.

  • “Hovland delivered his best round in his career just at the right time, turning a race between two men into a single-man show with a 9 under 61. He sprinted past Scottie Schaffler and Matt Fitzpatrick to win the BMW Championship.”
  • The previous record of 62 was set by Sam Burns on Tuesday and Max Homa on Wednesday. Hovland birdied every hole on the back nine except two.”
  • Hovland stated, “”When I putted on 15 to make a birdie, it made me feel like we have a shot now if I finish well.” “You never know what is going to happen in the back. Until that point, I didn’t know what was happening. I just wanted to keep playing well and making birdies.”

2. U.S. Am : Dunlap beats Shipley

Cameron Jourdan writes for Golfweek. “Dunlap’s fist pump was not the biggest or most pivotal, but his birdie on the par-4 tenth hole, where he made a 20-foot putt, essentially shutting the door on Neal Shipley. Dunlap’s automatic putter helped him win the 2023 U.S. Amateur by a score of 4-and-3 over Shipley. “Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club.”

  • “Dunlap is a 19 year-old rising sophomore from Alabama. He has been the most outstanding male amateur golfer this summer. And he proved that at the largest amateur event in the entire world.”

3. Pano wins ISPS Handa World Invitational

Kent Paisley, Golf Digest …” Both men and women competed in Galgorm Castle for $1.5 million in prize money. Alexa Pano, who won the women’s division with a birdie at the third playoff after a six-under 66 on the final hole.

  • …” Pano, who turned 19 years old on Sunday, has been a household name for golf fans since the Netflix documentary The Short Game chronicled the early stages of her junior career. She was competing in the U.S. Kids World Golf Championship in Pinehurst. She qualified for the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals three times at Augusta National and she was the youngest player in the inaugural Augusta National Women’s Amateur 2019″.
  • Pano, who had previously played college golf in the United States, turned professional in 2022. She earned her LPGA card last year in Q Series. Pano’s first career win came in her 12th attempt of the 2023 year, with her father Rick on her bag. “She’s the youngest tour winner this year, replacing Rose Zhang. She is also the eighth first-time LPGA winner in 2023.”

4. Brown wins men’s ISPS Handa World Invitational

Europeantour.com …” Daniel Brown won his first DP World Tour title in only his 20th appearance. He held his nerve to win the ISPS HANDA World Invitational, presented by AVIV Clinics.

  • The Englishman was top of the leaderboard after he carded a 64 on the first day. He entered the final round with a six shot lead.
  • His lead was cut to two at the end of the nine-hole stretch, but he closed out his victory with a 69. He finished 15 under par ahead of Alex Fitzpatrick who shot a final score 68.
  • Brown has had a long journey to the winners’ circle. He played his first DP World Tour tournament at the 2015 KLM Open, but he had to wait for seven years and two month for his second appearance.

5. Homa claps at the heckler

Golf Channel’s Ryan Lavner …”At the beginning, the belligerent observers yelled at Kirk to leave his birdie attempt of 19 feet short, which he left during a rough 75-minute round at Olympia Fields.

  • “Then Homa stood up to his 5-footer birdie.”
  • Homa said that “one of them paid $3 for me to do mine.” “I got to the backside of my backstroke, and he shouted loudly, “Pull it!” I got it in the middle and started screaming at him. Then [caddie] Joe (Griner) yelled back at him.
  • The exchange was captured by cameras.
  • “What’d Homa yell?”
  • He said, “That he is a clown.” “Maybe another term.
  • “Long day, I guess. It’s a bummer when it happens. I was glad I made it. He was rude to Chris. Whatever.”

6. Hideki WD injured

Max Schreiber …”Hideki Matsuyama withdrawn from the BMW Championship’s penultimate Tour event before teeing-off in Round 2. He had a back injury. This is his second WD this season. He had pulled out of Houston Open with a neck problem in November.

  • Matsuyama’s BMW WD will prevent him from claiming a place in the Tour Championship next week, where the 2021 Masters winner has qualified in each of the nine previous seasons, the longest streak of any player.

7. Brooks is out of the Ryder Cup auto spot

Mark Schlabach, ESPN …”Five time major champion Brooks Koepka will need help in order to compete for the United States at the upcoming Ryder Cup.

  • After Sunday’s BMW Championship near Chicago, Koepka was not one of the six automatic qualifiers that made the U.S. Team.
  • But he fell to seventh on Sunday after a href=”https://www.espn.com/golf/player/_/id/8973/max-homa” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>Max Homa/a> and Xander Schauffele tied for fifth and eighth, respectively, in the BMW Championship. He fell to seventh place on Sunday, after Max Homa, and Xander Schnauffele tied in the BMW Championship for fifth and eighth respectively.
