Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson highlight Saturday’s semifinal rounds at the 2023 LIV Championship Golf Team Championship

DORAL, Fla. – Two quarterfinal matches of the 2023 LIV Golf Team Championship went into extra holes, which set a high standard for the semifinal round on Saturday.

Four teams that had a week-long bye – Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces GC; Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC; Joaquin Niemann’s Torque GC; and Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats GC – will be back in action this weekend at 1:15 p.m. ET shotgun start in Trump National Doral.

The four captains had the opportunity to choose their opponents. This set up some solid matches on Saturday. Johnson will face Phil Mickelson, while the 4Aces GC and HyFlyers GC will be playing in the highlight match of the week. Watson vs. Sergio Garcia and the RangeGoats GC versus Fireballs GC might attract some attention. DeChambeau’s Crushers play Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC. Niemann’s Torque GC will face Louis Oosthuizen’s Stinger GC.

The second-round matches of Saturday’s semi-final round are listed below.


HyFlyers GC vs. 4Aces GC

  • Foursomes: Pat Perez/Peter Uihlein vs. James Piot/Brendan Steele


RangeGoats GC vs. Fireballs GC

  • Singles: Bubba Watson vs. Sergio Garcia
  • Singles: Talor Gooch vs. Eugenio Chacarra
  • Foursomes: Harold Varner III/Thomas Pieters vs. Carlos Ortiz/Abraham Ancer


Crushers GC vs. Cleeks GC

  • Singles: Bryson DeChambeau vs. Martin Kaymer
  • Singles: Paul Casey vs. Richard Bland
  • Foursomes :Anirban lahiri/Charles Howell vs. Graeme McDowell/Bernd Weisesberger


Torque GC vs. Stinger GC

  • Singles: Joaquin Niemann vs. Louis Oosthuizen
  • Singles: Sebastian Munoz vs. Branden Grace
  • Foursomes: Mito Pereira/David Puig vs. Charl Schwartzel/Dean Burmester

Smash GC’s Brook Koepka beat Mickelson 6 to 4 and Eugenio Chácarra, of the Fireballs smashed Majesticks GC’s Sam Horsfield 6 to 5. Stinger GC was the only team to sweep their first round opponents, Iron Heads GC. None of the matches went beyond 18 holes.

You could win big money

This week, a whopping $50,000,000 is at stake. The winning team will receive $14,000,000. The format is a mixture of match play and stroke play. The quarterfinals on Friday and the semifinals on Saturday will include three matches per round: two singles, and an alternate shot foursomes. No ties. The team with the most points advances. All 12 teams will be competing in stroke play on Sunday. In regular season, the lowest score is removed from the total team score. Only the top four teams are eligible to win the top prize. Teams that lose on Saturday compete for the 5-8 places, while Friday’s losers will be competing for the 9-12 places.
