The upcoming Solheim Cup in Spain will see eight rookies make their debut, including two of world’s best young talent. This could lead to an exciting decade for women’s golf.
Rose Zhang, a 20-year old phenom, who made her LPGA debut earlier this summer is one of the eight. She earned her spot and membership on the team through her world ranking.
Zhang said, “It was pretty crazy. I didn’t expect myself to be also a captain pick.” This week’s Kroger City Championship will take place at Kenwood Country Club near Cincinnati, Ohio. “I didn’t think I could get a spot at first because I was not an LPGA member. But the fact I got in through rankings, and that (Stacy Lewis), was my captain – she was my Spirit International captain – makes me feel very honored.

Zhang is a great team player. She is a great team player. It’s actually the camaraderie that she is most looking forward to when she makes her Solheim Cup début at Finca Cortesin, Spain, from Sept. 22-24.
Zhang said, “As athletes, we all dream of representing our country. For me to wear the red, white, and blue as a pro is an honor.” “I’m also playing with players I grew up with, and it’s pretty crazy to say we’re team-mates, especially after everything that has happened in the past couple of months.”
Zhang says that despite the U.S. team’s Tuesday dinner, it still hasn’t sunk in yet that she has earned a place in the first half of the tour and likely won’t before she gets to the property.
Zhang, who is always humble, admitted that “it’s not going to feel real until I actually play. It’s almost a surreal feeling and I can’t imagine what it will be like at the first tee.” Even in the practice round and going to the venue it will seem like a dream.
She added, “I can’t imagine how it will be, because there is so much I’m expecting.”
