The Rocket Mortgage buildings downtown Detroit, which are a fan favorite and the winner of the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic, Rickie Folwler will be orange-lit on Sunday night.
The color orange was the dominant hue in Detroit over the weekend. All ages wore Fowler’s trademark orange to the Detroit Golf Club to cheer on Fowler in the final round of the tournament. The group chanted “Rickie!” as they followed him from one hole to the next. Rickie! From the moment he started to play until the final putt he made in the afternoon, he won the title.
Fowler thanked all of the fans. “You guys were incredible. I felt the energy throughout the week. I really appreciate your support. “You guys have always been there for me.”
Fowler beat Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa in a late-Sunday afternoon playoff. The three players were tied on 24-under after four round of play. Fowler won his first Tour title since 2019 after birding the par-4 18th.
Fowler’s final walk to the green was met with a lot of attention by the crowd.
Morikawa said, “He has been playing incredible golf.” It’s not a one-time event. It’s wonderful to see him play such a great game of golf. People love him. Fans still show up to watch him, no matter what he is doing. But he has been playing well.”
