This week, amateur and professional golfers from across the United States converged on 10 different locations for U.S. Open final qualifying – known annually as Golf’s Longest day – and one of this year’s biggest stories was the presence LIV Golf League members in the field.
The Official World Golf Ranking is a simple way for players of all levels to qualify for major championships. Since events on the new circuit, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, do not offer OWGR, the LIV players’ ranking has plummeted, forcing them into the difficult task of qualifying for the third major men’s championship.
Only four players (in bold) of the 19 who entered a final qualifying event punched their tickets. One player did not finish the event, another withdrew from it and a third didn’t show up. Here is how LIV golfers did in the final qualifying round for the U.S. Open 2023, which will be held at Los Angeles Country Club from June 15-18.
