Next fall, Canada will make history.
Golf Canada announced the Canadian Collegiate Invitational this week, which will be the first Division I college golf tournament in Canada. The event will be held at Oviinbyrd Golf Club, MacTier, Ontario from September 15-17, 2024.
The tournament will take place at Golf Canada’s headquarters and be co-hosted jointly by Kent State University, Penn State University under the leadership of Canadian head coaches Jon Mills from Kent State and Mark Leon from Penn State. The tournament will include NCAA Division I men’s golf teams that have strong Canadian ties, along with the Canadian University/College Championship team champions for 2024.
What could be more amazing? The winner of the RBC Canadian Open 2025 will receive an exemption.
Mary Beth McKenna is the Director of Amateur Championships & Rules at Golf Canada. She said, “We’re excited to be adding a new event to our Amateur Championships schedule. We thank Kent State and Penn State who are co-hosting the invitational. This will allow some of the best Division I NCAA college programs to compete for the first ever time in Canada.”
The first championship will take place over 54 holes, played in two rounds. 36 holes are to be played in the first round and 18 in the second round.
The top five finishers will also be eligible for the Canadian Men’s Amateur in 2025.
