ST. SIMONS ISLAND (Ga.) — Sweden’s Ludvig berg is off to another good start.
The European Ryder Cup winner and rookie sensation didn’t become a pro until May after the NCAA Championship, but he won on the DP World Tour in September and is now threatening to win on the PGA Tour. He has one last chance to win the RSM Classic before the calendar turns. On Friday, he shot a 6-under 64 on the Seaside Course at Sea Island Resort.
He said: “I feel very, very lucky to be in this situation and I consider it a privilege to have the ability to feel such pressure, tension, and nervousness.” It’s something I don’t want to give up. “I want to continue doing what I am doing, and hit good shots on the golf course and make putts.”
Aberg holed a birdie from 20 feet at the very end to gain a stroke lead over Eric Cole and Denny McCarthy at 11-under-131. Aberg recorded his first 36-hole or co-lead, and lowest 36-hole opening score during what was his 11th professional start. What does it feel like to be in the lead?
He said, “I’ve led the race a few times and it gets easier every time.”
