LOS ANGELES – Rickie fowler missed a putt measuring 4 feet 9 inches on 18th hole, dropping back to a tie with Wyndham for the 54-hole leader at the 123 rd U.S. Open. NBC’s Paul Azinger questioned if this was the kind of putt which would haunt Fowler.
Azinger replied, “That hurts you because you’ll have to sleep all night on that one.” You hate finishing like that. “When a golfer dreams about a long putt, it is usually a nightmare.”
Fowler, however, took the whole thing in stride.
He said, “I made a great putt.” “Just a bummer. It would be nice if that goal went in. It doesn’t really matter if you are in the lead or two back. “You’re going have to play well tomorrow.”
Fowler is trying to end a 4-year winless streak on the PGA Tour by winning his first major title. Fowler shot an even-par round of 70 on Saturday after opening with a U.S. Open-record 62 in the first round. He has a 54 hole aggregate score of 10-under-210.

Fowler has now made it to the final pairing in a major tournament for the third consecutive time. Fowler was paired up with Martin Kaymer for the 2014 U.S. Open, where he finished T-2. He also paired up with Rory McIlroy for the 2014 British Open, where he also finished T-2.
Fowler stated, “This is by far the best feeling I have ever had, not just in a tournament, but in particular a major. I would even say that this was my best feeling in my entire career.”
Fowler’s 10 th lead at 54 holes or as co-leader is his 10th time, but only two of those nine times have he won.
Fowler says he is not afraid to fail.
He said, “I’ve taken care of that.” “We are going to have fun and continue to execute. We will leave everything out there. Let’s see how we do on 18.
Fowler is relishing the chance to win the first major that he has been aiming for but hasn’t achieved in recent years.
Fowler stated, “Through the three rounds we are in the position that we want to have been in and tomorrow the tournament begins.”
