For 2023 WM Phoenix Open there will be no aluminum bottles on 16th hole. Instead, fans will receive a commemorative cup.

SCOTTSDALE (Ariz.) — Sam Ryder made it pour in 2022.

His famous ace in the third round at the WM Phoenix Open was a huge hit with fans. After the first few bottles of beer went flying, there was no stopping this onslaught.

It is not known if there was an official count, but it seems likely that there were a few thousand aluminum bottles containing $10 beers. This poured suds on the course and stopped play for about 15 minutes.

Many of the chucked beer were either full or almost full.

Pat Williams, tournament chairman, said that it was “like a weapon”.

In 2023, bottles will cease to exist.

Williams stated that starting Wednesday, “every canned alcohol beverage, beer, or seltzer and anything that’s alcohol in a can, will be served within that cup.” “All non-canned items – water, soda, and coke – will be served in our traditional plastic cups. But canned beer will be served in the commemorative cup.”

The cups will be instantly recognized by Masters patrons, but the color is slightly different.

They are the same size and color as the Masters cup but with our logo on them. However, they were made by the same company.

Fans will still throw them at the 16th green.

“Last year was amazing with the hole in one. The injury was avoided which was great. To further protect both the players and fans, we will put alcohol in cups. They won’t throw it if they do. It will probably get to the person in front of them.

Fans might reconsider throwing away a great keepsake like the commemorative cup.

Williams stated, “I believe it’s going be great.” They can be recycled, which is very important.

A fan can have more than one drink at a time, and they will get another cup. The alcohol cannot be poured in the same cup. Each beverage will receive a different cup. A fan could leave with more than one cup.

Carlos Ortiz scored an ace on Sunday’s same hole last year, and fans again threw their beer bottles. But it’s the Ryder shot that everybody seems to remember.

These were the 10th & 11th hole-in-1s on the 16th hole of tournament history.
