Scottie Scheffler officially became the first American player to be named to the 2023 United States Ryder Cup Team on Wednesday. The biennial event this year will take place from Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, at Marco Simone Golf Club, in Rome, Italy.
The U.S.-Europe duel will take place in two months, but the players who will represent the United States have already begun to solidify themselves. Wyndham, Brian Harman and Brook Koepka are currently the five other automatic qualifiers, along with Scheffler.
There are many superstars who have a hard time fitting in, including Max Homa, Ricky Fowler and Jordan Spieth.
Captain’s Picks could be given to all three players, but there are many things that can happen before selection.
Fred Couples, the vice captain of the PGA Tour, did provide some insight in his SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio Show, The Fred Couples show.
George Downing, his co-host, said: “Here are the guys who have not been confirmed and must make their case.” “No. Max Homa.”
Couples responded, “I’ll tell you Max Homa is going to be in Italy.” “I’ll tell you Max Homa is going to be in Italy without causing anyone any trouble.”
Couples was asked about Cameron Young.
Couples told me that Cam Young would be in Italy.

What about Jordan Spieth, the golfer?
He said, “I will be in Italy.”
Couples responded: “I’m stopping.” When asked what he thought about Keegan Brad, Couples said:
The U.S. Ryder Cup team, including these three players, looks like this: Scheffler (including Clark), Harman, Koepka (including Schauffele), Cantlay (including Homa), Spieth, and Young.
Three spots remain available on the 12-man squad. Names like Fowler, Tony Finau and Sam Burns are still waiting for a call.
Thomas is having trouble with his game. He has a 6-2-1 Ryder Cup record. Thomas has decided to play in the 3M Open this week and the Wyndham Championship next week as a last minute effort to impress Zach Johnson.
“I’m happy he’s going to play this week.” Everyone knows JT has to go, is it Minnesota and then Greensboro, right? Couples said, “He’s got to go there and play well.”
After the BMW Championship, which is the second of the three FedEx Cup Playoff Events, the six automatic qualifiers will be announced. Captain Johnson will announce his captain’s selections after East Lake.
After listening to Couples it sounds as though three of these spots have already been taken.
