Fred Perpall is nominated for the presidency of USGA. He would be the first Black man to hold this post in the association’s century-long history

Fred Perpall was nominated for the position of the 67th President of the United States Golf Association. He would be the first Black person to hold the post in the history of the association, which dates back to 1894.

Perpall (47) will succeed Stu Francis, California’s Hillsborough, California. His three-year term will end in February 2023. Highlights of Francis’ presidency included helping to lead the organization through the COVID-19 pandemic and bringing in Mike Whan to be the USGA CEO. He also worked to raise all USGA championships as well as host sites.

Perpall is originally from the Bahamas and now calls Dallas his home. This year marks his fourth year on this executive committee. It will also mark his first term as president-elect. He is the Chairman of the Championship Committee and helped to organize the U.S. Adaptive Open Championship.

Perpall is a CEO at The Beck Group. He oversees the company’s international and domestic architectural design, planning, and real estate consulting businesses. Perpall is a registered architect and was elected to the prestigious American Institute of Architects College of Fellows.

Perpall received his bachelor’s degree and master’s from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is also a Harvard Business School graduate of the Advanced Management Program. Perpall played basketball and ran track at college. He was also a member the 1994 Bahamian National Basketball Team. He began playing golf less than ten years ago.

Whan said that Fred is a dynamic leader with a great passion for the game.

At the annual meeting of the USGA, which will be held in Napa, California on February 25, 2023, the election of officers and members to the executive committee of the USGA, a group of 15 volunteers that provides financial and strategic oversight and is the Association’s policy-making board and governance board, takes place.
