More information about The Patch – Augusta Municipal Golf Course

Augusta Municipal Golf Course was opened in 1928. It has been a popular course for local golfers, but it has also faced serious problems, including changing ownership and ongoing struggles on the course.

A 2008 Golf Magazine writer made fun of the course’s “a green as round and bald like Charlie Brown’s head”.

It is a partnership between the First Tee, Augusta National, and Augusta Tech. This will allow Augusta Tech to expand its work with Augusta Tech, and the Double Eagle program which places military veterans in a position to learn more about maintenance of golf courses and get into the workforce.

Augusta Tech has already joined the City of Augusta in order to take over operation of The Patch by 2025. Augusta Tech will move its golf course management program from Augusta Tech to The Patch as part of this announcement. This creates a learning environment.

The announcement was made at Chairman Ridley’s annual press conference at The 2023 Masters Tournament. Representatives from The Patch, Augusta Tech and The First Tee, as well as representatives of the City of Augusta, Georgia, were present to celebrate the occasion. As more information becomes available, we will share future updates about the partnership and Augusta National’s support.

Augusta National and its foundation made Wednesday’s announcement by Ridley, marking a new investment in Augusta. It gave $10 million in early 2021 to transform the area surrounding 15th Street and Harrisburg, which included a regional Boys & Girls Club headquarters.
