There were plenty of takeaways from the 2023 Masters, but the one that continues to get the most social media attention is Patrick Cantlay’s slow play.
The 31-year-old was visibly slow during the final round of The Masters and the trend seemed to continue at the following weeks RBC Heritage.
Cantlay was being heckled about his pace by the fans all throughout the week.
The Twitter account “Beer At The Turn” captured a video with a fan taking out a timer and timing how long it took Cantlay to hit a shot from behind a tree. The final number was 2 minutes at 50 seconds.

Even “Shooter McGavin” got in the mix on Twitter making fun of Cantlay’s slow play.
Gilmore 3 putted and vandalized the clown hole before Patrick Cantlay hit in a 4 footer. Just watch.

It’s hard to argue that Cantlay’s pace of play is a bit too methodical, and thus he’s become the poster child for slow play on the PGA Tour.
He’s set to tee it up at this week’s Zurich Classic to defend his 2022 title alongside his good friend Xander Schauffele at TPC Louisiana. The duo is an overwhelming favorite at 3-1 to win the event so there’s a good chance golf fans will see him on their television screens once again this weekend.
