Gary Woodland, former U.S. Open winner, underwent surgery to remove brain tumors on Monday.
According to a post on Woodland’s social media account, “after a long operation today, the majority has been removed of the tumor and he is now resting.”
Woodland, 39, posted in the past he had been diagnosed with cancer a few month ago and was trying to treat his symptoms using medication. After consulting with his family and specialists, Woodland decided to have the surgery. Woodland chose to have the surgery done in order to remove his legion.
According to the Cleveland Clinic brain lesions can be caused by injury or medical conditions. A stroke is one example of a brain lesion. They can cause confusion, sensory disturbance and weakness.

Woodland, a four time winner on the PGA Tour competed last at the Wyndham championship, the final FedEx Cup regular season event, on August 6, where he tied 27th. Woodland posted on social media that the family was requesting privacy and space to be together. “Thank you for your prayers and thoughts as he begins his road to recovery,” Woodland’s social media post said.
