Gary Woodland will be returning to the PGA Tour in less than four months following surgery to remove brain tumors. Todd Lewis of Golf Channel was the first to break the news.
Lewis revealed that Woodland will be competing in the Sony Open in Honolulu from Jan. 11-14.
Woodland missed the cut at the 2023 Sony Open, but the next time will be much more important for the four-time Tour champion. Woodland competed at the Wyndham championship last August and tied for 27th place.
Woodland, 39 posted on Facebook that he tried to treat his symptoms with medications but, after consulting with doctors and his family, he decided to have surgery.
Soon after Woodland’s surgery, the University of Kansas renamed their golf facilities in his honor.
He posted a video of him hitting practice balls in November. His message ended with the words “I am looking forward to meeting you all next year.”
Woodland will be one of 144 golfers who compete in the first full field event of the season next year.
Zalatoris is also available in Sony
The PGA Tour published the complete field list on Friday afternoon. Will Zalatoris is included. Last month, he finished 20th in the Hero World Challenge. He missed the majority of the last season due to back surgery he had in April. This was just days after he withdrew from the Masters before the first round.
