Georgia Tech’s freshman quarterback Colson brown hasn’t played for the Yellow Jackets in this fall. He did, however, start in one of the world’s most famous venues for the Ramblin’ Wreck.
He traded his golf clubs for his shoulder pads and his helmet this week.
Georgia Tech has committed to two events in this week. The first is the East Lake Cup, which will be held at the Atlanta Athletic Club. You guessed it: the famed Cypress Point. Golfweek’s Best 2023 lists the top Classic Courses of the United States.
In California, Georgia Tech needed six players to fill out its lineup for the East Lake Cup. Their top five players were sent there. Georgia Tech was required to have six players in California. However, due to junior Ben Reuter’s redshirting, only five bodies were available.
Enter Brown. He played golf in South Carolina at North Augusta High School, which is just across the river, from Augusta, Georgia. Brown, who stands at 6’4″ tall, stepped up to ensure that Georgia Tech did not have to withdraw from a tournament they won in 2019.
The Cypress Point Classic, a two-day Walker Cup style event, features foursomes on Monday followed by fourballs on Tuesday.
Brown lost his two matches on Monday. Brady Rackley and Tommy Morrison lost 4-and-3 to Jacob Sosa and Tommy Morrison from Texas in foursomes. They then lost 2 and 1 to Brendan Valdes of Auburn and Reed Lotter, playing in fourball.
Brown, who will be leading off the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, will face Illinois’ Piercen hunt in singles.
