Golf fans are familiar with this refrain: Too many commercials during the critical moments of weekend coverage.
Thanks to a deal made with Callaway, Sunday’s final hour of coverage of the Sentry Tournament of Champions will be commercial-free.
Sports Business Journal reported the news first; Golfweek confirmed the report.
You can watch the Sentry Tournament of Champions on streaming service ESPN+ and Peacock, as well as on TV on Golf Channel every day and NBC on Saturday and Sunday.
This week, however, the typical handoff of cable to network TV coverage is reversed. Usually, it’s Golf Channel that provides the initial coverage before moving on to the over-the air coverage on NBC and CBS.
The Sentry will be covered by NBC from 4-6 p.m. on the first two hours of weekend TV coverage. ET, while Golf Channel brings it back from 6-8 p.m. The last hour will not feature any commercials on TV or on the Peacock stream.
Sports Business Journal reported that there might be more commercial-free coverage for the PGA Tour on Sundays. Lead NBC producer Tommy Roy told the publication: “Whenever it’s possible to have commercial-free golf we do it.” We’re happy to bring it here at the first event. To bring it here on Sunday.
