The college golf postseason is fast approaching. The new National Championship is scheduled and preparations have been finalized.
The NCAA announced in May that teams would be allowed to compete in a single season-ending tournament. Golfweek has teamed up at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, located in Maricopa Arizona, south of Phoenix, to host the first National Golf Invitational.
The NGI will have a men’s and a women’s championship. Each championship has a maximum 18 teams, who play 54 holes in stroke play. The women will compete first from May 11-14. The men will follow the next week, from May 18-21.
A committee will decide the field, based on a combined average of Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and Golfstat rankings. The committee may also choose teams with strong regular season performances.
The plan is for the committee to select three teams from the 15 best teams based on the average ranking.
Imagine it as the NCAA tournament of college golf.
