Golfweek’s Top 100 public-access golf courses in the U.S.

Jun, 2023

This list is a selection of some of the best public-access courses in the U.S. We publish many lists each year and this one includes a number of premium layouts.

Our course-rating panel is made up of hundreds of members who continually rate courses based on ten criteria using a point system of 1 to 10. Each course is also given a single overall rating. These rankings are based on the average of these overall ratings. The average rating for the top few courses around the world is above 9, but many of the best layouts are in the range of high 6 to 8.

All of the courses listed on this page allow public access to some degree, whether it’s through standard green fees per day, a resort or by staying in an affiliated hotel. There’s always a tee-time if you have the will.

The course names are listed in order of their ranking for 2022 in parenthesis, with the average rating, location, year opened, and designers.

Key: (m), modern, built after 1960; (c), classic, before 1960. If a course has a number before the (m) and (c), it is the ranking of the course on Golfweek’s lists for the top 200 classic or modern courses in the U.S.

This list is either new or has been updated.
