South Florida is a great place to play golf.

Which are the best courses? If you are willing to drive a little, there are many courses in this area that rank among the top public-access courses in Florida according to Golfweek’s Best ranking. The courses below are all within a reasonable driving distance from cities like Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

It’s not easy to pull up our state by state rankings. They list Florida courses which are a full-day’s drive from South Florida. (South Florida is not to confused with Southwest Florida, like Naples, as most Floridians consider it to be a separate region.

There are plenty of public access courses in South Florida. There are. There are.

One course that’s not on the list of best in state yet will surely be there in years to follow. The Park is a new course designed by Gil Hanse & Jim Wagner. It includes 18 holes, a par-3, and lighting. The 18-hole course was not completed in time for Golfweek’s best lists to be published in 2023.

This list includes a map that shows where you can find each of these courses. The map below shows the number of each course on the list. Scroll down to see them.

Each course’s position on Golfweek’s list of the Best public-access courses in Florida is also included. The positions of any courses that appear on our other popular ranking lists are also included.

Background: Our course-rating panel, which consists of hundreds of members, continuously rates courses on the basis of 10 criteria. The points are assigned on a scale of 1-10. Each course is also given a single overall rating. These ratings are then averaged out to create our Golfweek Best Course rankings.

These courses are open to the public in one way or another, whether it’s through standard green fees per day, a resort, or by staying in an affiliated hotel. There’s no need to be a member if you want to play golf.
