GolfWRX launches 2024 Callaway Chrome Tour X and Chrome Soft golf balls — Launch Report

Jan, 2024

What You Need to Know: Callaway is reworking its flagship ball line and investing heavily in R&D. Chrome Tour, and HTML Tour X have been renamed to “better players” by the company. ChromeSoft is still available, but it’s aimed at “aspiring players” who are looking for a golf ball of tour quality. Chrome Tour X was designed for players who value control and want a ball with higher spin. Chrome Tour is softer and spins less than Chrome Tour X. It’s aimed at the player who wants distance and feel. Chrome Soft has the lowest spinning and lowest compression in the entire lineup. The new R&D highlights in the redesigned line include a Hyper Fast Soft Core and new inner and outer covers.

Callaway Chrome Tour X and Chrome Tour Soft golf balls: New technology, what’s new in 2024?

  • HyperFastSoft Core: This golf ball engine is made from a new rubber and base polymers that achieve the target compression number for more ball speeds across the line-up.
  • Seamless Aero Tour: Callaway used in-house computational flow dynamics to create a seamless cover with a configuration that targets optimal flight windows for every ball in the line. This design combines Callaway’s hexagonal surface geometries with strategically placed spherical divots to increase stability.
  • High Performance Tour Urethane soft cover: New cover design with a newly formulated substructure provides low spin on iron and driver shots, while maintaining abundant greenside spinning.
  • Tour Player Feedback: Callaway engineers incorporated tour players’ feedback into the design process and prototyping.

Callaway Chrome Tour golf balls: Additional model details

Chrome Tour Chrome Tour Hyper Fast Soft Core: Chrome Tour Hyper Fast Soft Core was born from a tour prototype Chrome Soft X that is softer and more penetrating. It’s designed for players who are looking to find the right balance between soft feel and long distance. Seamless Tour aerodynamic package tuned for stability and consistency. The urethane covers are designed to provide a soft touch around the green.

Chrome Tour: Callaway’s fast golf ball is the Chrome Tour X. Chrome Tour X is designed with this in mind. Seamless Tour Aero is an aerodynamic package designed to produce a ball that penetrates deeper. The urethane covers generate the most spin of any ball in the line-up and even more than Chrome Soft X.

Chrome Soft The Hyper Soft Fast Core here is designed to provide maximum ball speed. The softest cover of all the urethane covers in the line-up delivers the most spin and the softest feel for slow swingers. The Seamless Tour Aero in Chrome Soft is tuned for the highest peak height.

More ball speed in the entire product line:

Every layer of the golfball contributes to its performance on each shot. You would see the same deformation or deflection if you hit a pitching wedge or a 6-iron. The core determines how the ball will perform. The core allows us to control spin rates in the bag and changes the feel of golf balls, but it is ultimately designed to give us speed, especially driver ball speed.

We set out to improve our core by capitalizing on the work we’ve already done and building upon it. Our new rubber system is a combination of a base polymer and a number of other ingredients to give us the compression and material properties we are looking for. It gives us a faster ball for each of the new products .”

Combining data and better player insights to create a ball that is better:

When you want to capture the best insights from players, one of the biggest challenges is matching their insight with their test data. It’s a constant challenge for the industry to bridge the gap between what mechanical testing shows and what players actually see on the course. Our team has made a lot of effort to close the gap between our testing and what players see.

We’ve developed some new technologies based on their observations and suggestions. The bottom line is that every component of the ball had to be examined. In these new golfballs, every component has been completely redesigned. The little details are what really count …”

On tour

Adam Hadwin, who is a member of The Sentry, told Andrew Tursky that he had switched to the Chrome Tour X before The Sentry:

“I told my caddie that in crosswinds the mishits can still go as far as the better-struck shots. It’s not holding its line, but the mishits are flying through the air a bit more. If I recall correctly, that’s what they did. Aerodynamics has been changed so it won’t take off in the air. It holds its line a bit better…flying through the wind .”
