The decision to trade in my hockey stick for a set of golf clubs was a good one. Sort of.
Bloomington South’s Happy Gilmore, yup that is his real name, has signed a letter of intent to play college-level golf at Ball State. Gilmore never played hockey like Adam Sandler in the movie. But even Sandler is impressed with what Gilmore can do.
Landon is his real name, but when he began playing golf at the age of 6, he adopted “Happy” as his nickname. It’s only logical, right?
Gilmore, who has been a star for the Bloomington South Boys Golf Team since his freshman season, is now moving up to the next level. He shot 66 in a U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier recently. He is 497th on the Golfweek/Sagarin Boys Rankings.
I am excited to announce my commitment to continue both my academic and sporting career at Ball State University. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity that Coach Fleck gave me! I want to thank my family and friends, as well as my coaches who are always pushing me! @BallStateMGolf pic.twitter.com/nz36to47J2

Gilmore shot even par for 36 holes, finishing T-7 in the Indiana state high school boys’ golf tournament held earlier this month at Prairie View Golf Club. He won the regional at Country Oaks Golf Club in Momtgomery, just a week earlier.
Watch out for Shooter McGavin
