PONTE VEDRA, Fla. — Hayden Springer grabbed his daughter Annie, aged one year old from his Chrysler Voyager minivan. He gave Annie a squeeze and smiled like a father who has missed his child.
Sage, his oldest child, died just over a week ago on November 13. Trisomy 18 was diagnosed prenatally, a developmental disorder caused by an extra chromosome.
Springer stated, “She is a special girl and we will miss her very much.” She brought a lot of joy to her family and those around her.
Springer played some impressive golf at PGA Tour Q-School this week despite barely playing in the last month. Springer shot a 2-under-68 on Saturday at Sawgrass Country Club, improving to 7 under 203. This puts him in T-5, and just below the cutline to receive one of the Tour Cards being awarded to the top five players and ties.
Springer has full Korn Ferry Tour membership after winning the Fortinet Cup of the 2023 PGA Tour Canada season. But he knows what’s at stake this Sunday.
Springer said that playing U.S. Kids events at age 8 was a life-changing experience. Children’s events begin at the age of 8. I’ve dreamed of playing on the PGA Tour for most of my adult life. “It’s an amazing opportunity to be here, and get a shot.”
After the third round, here are four things you should know.
