Heavy rain is expected this weekend. A history of weather-altered Masters finish

Apr, 2023

AUGUSTA GA — Call it a curse. It’s a coincidence. If history is any guide, it is likely to rain at Augusta National.

In the 50 years that have passed, the Masters Tournament has required a Monday finish twice — each ending with 3: 1973 and 1982.

Tommy Aaron, eventual winner of the award, said that he will never forget Saturday’s rain in 1973. “It all worked out for me at the range Monday morning.”

Weather.com predicts that 2023 will be a wet one with an 84 percent chance for rain Friday, 94% Saturday, and 60% Sunday.

A Saturday high of 53 degrees is expected to bring down the temperature.

Craig Stadler, the 1983 champion and defending champion of the course, said that “This may be the year another Monday finishes happen.” The weather is not ideal this weekend. However, the course can withstand rain. Thunderstorms are not possible.”

After three rounds, Raymond Floyd and Stadler were tied for first place in 1983. This was before the Walrus’s Monday 76. Was the Monday finish an influence?

Stadler stated, “Well, I certainly didn’t play very good.” “But you can do nothing about the weather. The gods are at your mercy.”

The Masters of 1993 were also affected by adverse weather and had to be suspended for Friday’s round. Storms caused Thursday’s round to be postponed, and two rounds were set for Friday in 2003.

2013 saw some rain but it didn’t affect the round.

Champion Mike Weir said that Friday looked dicey in 2003. “I was unsure if we would be able finish Sunday. We were able to finish Saturday’s round and we were clear.

Weir said that this week would be a tale of two nights. We’ll be experiencing heat and southwest winds Thursday through Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, however, we’ll have a southwest wind and heat.
