Oct, 2022

Henrik Stenson’s decision to join LIV Golf in the spring has been met with a lot of criticism.

The 46-year old was to be the European team captain for 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy. His Ryder Cup captaincy was resigned after he accepted a deal with LIV.

Shortly after, Stenson released a statement expressing disappointment at not being able to be the Ryder Cup captain.

The statement states that Ryder Cup Europe has communicated to me that it was not possible to continue my role as Ryder Cup Captain. “While I disagree with this decision, it is one that I must accept .”

There was much speculation about whether Stenson used his position as Ryder Cup captain in order to negotiate with LIV more money.

Rex Hoggard, from Golf Central, even wrote a story asking if Stenson had done that.

In an interview with Riath al-Samarrai from Mail+, Stenson stated that his decision not to be Ryder Cup captain was unrelated to his negotiations with LIV. He’s also willing to lie detector test the truth.

The Swede stated, “I can give a 100% honest answer that it wasn’t the case.” “I would be willing take a lie detector test.”

Stenson also spoke out about why the LIV Golf schedule was a better fit at this stage in his career.

“I’m happy where I am. That was a thought I had to think about for several hours. I was able to win the game straight from the box. Next year is exciting. It is great to be with these guys on this tour.

“We’re playing together, traveling together, and it has a completely different vibe than regular life on tour like I did for many decades.” It was fantastic, but I still enjoy this .”

“I’m getting the off season that I have longed for for 17 years. I look forward to it, getting stronger and healthier in the gym, and getting ready for the next season in February em>

Friday will see the end of LIV Golf’s final season at Trump Doral in Miami.
