Jon Rahm was only able to visit Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando once. He quickly realized why Tiger Woods is so successful there.
The Spaniard at 28 years old, who has won three times this season, is expected to be one of the favorite players in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Rahm is playing his best golf, winning the Genesis Invitational just two weeks back and regaining the No. Rahm is currently ranked No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Bay Hill Club and lodge is a course where the best players usually rise to the top. Tiger has won the tournament eight times. Rahm learned the reason why last year.
Rahm stated, “It’s an iron-striker’s course.” We need to be precise with the irons and, obviously, be great on the greens. This is a course Tiger can manage. You want to avoid hitting the tee, as it will give you a better chance of getting to the greens. It makes sense to see that most hazards are on the left.
“I see many similarities between the courses Tiger played well at and I’m able to do well most of them. This could be the right course for me.
Arnold Palmer Invitational: Best bets
This could spell doom for the rest.
Rahm was crowned world No. 17 at Bay Hill last year. The crown was won by 2 Scottie Scheffler. No. Arnie’s Place has also won 3 Rory McIlroy.
All three of them have held the No. They have been No. 1 in the world for the past six months and seem to alternate between them as each wins events. McIlroy leapfrogged Scheffler to become No. McIlroy won the CJ Cup in fall. Scheffler reclaimed the title at the WM Phoenix Open. A week later, Rahm took the Riviera crown.
Rahm finds the back-and-forth fascinating. He knows that he won’t be able to match Tiger’s world No. 1 record of 52 weeks. He’s still enjoying the weekly challenge.
“I know that this is the No. 1 change in this short period of time,” he said. He said that 1 changed in a short time. “I was interested in the stats, and it is a great indicator of how well everyone has been playing golf.”
Rahm is the best, no matter how strong everyone else has been.
He began the year by winning the Sentry Tournament of Champions. His next win was at The American Express. He finished T-7 at Torrey Pines, the Farmers Insurance Open. He was T-7 at Torrey Pines and the Farmers Insurance Open. This is before he won the Genesis Invitational.
Rahm understands that he doesn’t need to be on fire to win. Tiger asked Rahm how many times he had his A-game during his 82 PGA Tour victories. Tiger replied with only three.
Rahm was asked if he believed he could win when he plays at his best. He was straightforward in his answer, but he was clear.
“No.”
