AUGUSTA (Ga.) — The Masters Tournament has many rules. Augusta National Golf Club does not have any control over this rule.
The replicas of yellow Masters pin flags are available at the club’s merchandise centre for $30 each. On the flag is the year of the current Masters.
The flag’s design features the iconic Masters logo, which includes the outline of the United States. The logo occupies about half of the flag’s area. It is located in the middle. The logo is the center of the flag.
Only former Masters champions are allowed to sign in the middle, within the United States outline. All others must sign outside the logo.
Although no one knows the exact origin of this tradition, it cannot have happened before 1993. That’s when the flags were first sold in the merchandise centre.
Flags are placed near the Augusta National clubhouse’s first floor locker room with a sharpie next to it. They are signed by players and often auctioned off to support a charity or foundation they support.
The middle of the flags at that table is always empty. Only champions know where they are signed — and they seldom visit this locker room. They also have their own upstairs locker room.
However, not all champions agree to sign in the middle. The most well-known (Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods) however, does. do. Others choose not.

O’Meara stated, “If someone asks you to sign a Masters Flag, unless they reply ‘Can it be signed in the middle?’ then I will sign on the side.” “Being a Masters champion, it’s possible to buy flags from clubs that don’t have dates. When I sign a flag to someone I wish to send it, I will personalize it and write the year I won.

Noblesville’s Zane Corley was 13, and had his flag signed by the practice range on Monday. Although he was aware of the tradition of the Masters champions, he didn’t know that Sergio Garcia, the 2017 champion, had signed his flag under the logo.
Flag autographs are not just for fans. Most players will place flags on tables for everyone to sign during Tuesday’s Champions Dinner. It is expected that 33 former champions will be featured.
