He was so meticulous that he used geometric compasses to check the accuracy of course maps during his rounds. He also famously had irons designed for him that were the same length as a 6-iron.
The 29-year old took a radical approach to eating, not only did he adopt the “mad scientist” approach but also embraced the diverse selection of clubs.
DeChambeau was eating an average of 3,500 calories per days to gain weight to increase his distance. He also consumed a lot of protein through protein shakes. He gained approximately 50 pounds during that period. Bryson gained a lot of weight and became the longest driver on PGA Tour. He also won a U.S. Open, as well as other major events.
DeChambeau, however, revealed in an interview with ” The 5 Clubs Podcast” that his unhealthy eating habits had begun to impact his overall health.
“I ate foods that were not good for my body that I was very sensitive too. It got to the point that it was just a bit too much.
“I was extremely inflamed from eating improperly for nearly a year and half.” I was extremely inflamed .”
He said, “I start by going to each side and then I best fit what suits me.” It’s a reasonable way to live your life. However, it can be difficult at times due to its extremes. But if you don’t know which side you are on, how can you ever decide what is best for you? This is what I have done with my life .”
DeChambeau has struggled with golf for the last year and a bit. His last win was March 2021 (API), and he did not qualify for any LIV golf event.
I played terrible golf last year. I played my C-game.”
He is now suggesting that young golfers follow a different path than he did in order to gain more distance from the tee.
“No. “No. To gain strength and size, get a blood test to determine what is most effective for you.
Bryson stated that he feels younger and looks better after he returned to a healthier lifestyle. It will be interesting to see how that affects the course on 2023.
