Ian Poulter claims that Billy Horschel requested $45 million from LIV Golf in the latest exchange between two longtime adversaries.
Poulter posted a message on social media about swing speed. Horschel could not resist calling Poulter out, writing on X he was “one those guys who over exaggerate the club head speed.”
Horschel’s chart showed Poulter swinging at 110 mph, but Poulter said the numbers were incorrect and that his swinging speed was 115 mph.
HTML 1_ This is hilarious.
I have a swing speed of 115MPH and carry the ball 290-295 yards. These Yardages will be wrong unless they are measured from a landing on Mount Everest or a Runway. All numbers should be carried and launch conditions must be specified.— Ian Poulter (@IanJamesPoulter) December 22, 2023
Poulter then claimed that Horschel asked for almost $50 million in order to join LIV Golf. This is a new rival league, led by Greg Norman, and financially supported by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.
It’s okay Billy… I am usually good with numbers. So, I was wrong about $9 million per MPH that you requested to join LIV. What’s just a few numbers among friends? https://t.co/HwM65rffpZ

Poulter concluded his post by saying: “What is a few numbers among friends?”
In the past, the duo was a teammate when they tied third place at the Franklin Templeton Shootout. This event, which preceded the QBE Shootout and has been replaced this year by the mixed-team Grant Thornton Invitational, took place in the silly season.
Poulter became a member of LIV in June 2022, before the first event. He received reportedly about $20 million for joining the circuit.
